With the Jewish Agency (Sochnut) / Nefesh B'Nefesh / your local organization. This is the official starting point.
Gather and apostille your documents
Birth and marriage certificates, diplomas, police record โ translated and apostilled before you leave.
Estimate your settling-in budget
Anticipate monthly expenses and benefits (Sal Klita) based on your target city.

Week 1
Arrival
Collect your Teudat Olรฉ
Given at the airport (or at Misrad HaPnim): your new-immigrant certificate.
Buy an Israeli SIM card
Essential to receive texts from the authorities and create your accounts.
Open an Israeli bank account
Needed to receive the Sal Klita. Bring your Teudat Zehut/Olรฉ and passport.

The absorption basket is paid by Misrad HaAliya into your account.
Register with a Kupat Holim
Choose your health fund (Clalit, Maccabi, Meuhedet, Leumit) at the post office or online.
First month
The essential steps
Get your permanent Teudat Zehut
At Misrad HaPnim (Ministry of the Interior): your Israeli ID card.
Register with Bituach Leumi
Israeli national insurance: unlocks your rights (health, benefits).
Declare and pay the Arnona
City tax, paid at city hall (Iriya). Olim are entitled to a discount.
Write to city hall โSet up utilities (water, electricity, gas)
To register in your name for your home.
Enroll your children in school / gan
With the city's education department. Ask for the list of required documents.
Ask for the documents โConvert your driver's license
A foreign license is valid for a limited time: start the conversion early.

Settling in for good
Enroll in Ulpan
Official Hebrew classes, often free for Olim in the first year.
Review survival Hebrew โGet your diplomas recognized
With Misrad HaChinuch if needed (equivalence for work or studies).
Set up complementary health cover
The Bituach Mashlim, on top of the Kupat Holim base coverage.
Start your job search
Register with the Lishkat Taasuka (employment office) and activate your network.
Understand your Olim tax rights
Exemption year, tax benefits: clarify with an accountant if needed.
